I'm afraid I was never able to reproduce this. Are you still experiencing the issue with the latest (1.4.x) release of schroot? We call boost::filesystem::create_directories(directory) to create the mountpoint. This runs as root, so should never fail unless there's something odd going on which prevents mkdir(2) from working.
