I suggest this bug be reclassified as critical. It's blocking me completely. My worst Debian experience in many years.
I would greatly appreciate an immediate release of a new xorg version that restores the status quo ante (1.7.4-2). I am not able to do the downgrade on my own because I encounter cyclic dependencies around xserver-xorg-core. As for the location of the bug, I can provide the following hints: I tried the following: - downgrade kernel from 2.6.32 to 2.6.26 - downgrade hal - downgrade pciutils - replace xserver-xorg-video-intel by ...-vesa I strongly suspect that the bug is in one of the following packages I upgraded just before: xserver-xorg-core, xorg-server, xbase-clients, xutils, x11-common, xserver-xorg-input-evdev. The last one sounds to me like the most probable candidate.
