We can't ignore the debian policy ofcourse, but using alioth for collab maintenance does mean some lower administrative burden. Anyone is free to apply for a (guest) account on https://alioth.debian.org and then you just give me as a reference for when you ask the alioth admins (I did this on irc, #alioth on irc.debian.org) to add you to the collab-maint group.
