I installed the recent kernel linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-686 and updated kvm 72+dfsg-5 to qemu-kvm 0.11.1+dfsg-1. My old Win XP virtual-machine boots now! (using virt-manager 0.7.0-4+b1 as before) I guess, this ticket can be closed now, as kvm 84+dfsg-2 is not in squeeze any longer.
