Simplest thing is to add a line 'set -x' in /lib/partman/lib/base.sh. That will give a shitload of shell debug output in /var/log/syslog. Copy the syslog *as soon as* the hang occurs (don't play around after it has occurred) and mail it to the BR. Note: because of its size the syslog *must* be gzipped.
