I was able to isolate the issue. My system freezes and only "acpi=off" makes it possible to boot. My system configuration is:
Asus P5QL Pro & Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5 Ghz I used latest stable netinstaller for 5.0.3 Debian, x64.
