Package: grub-pc Version: 1.98~20100126-1 Severity: important With grub-pc 1.98~20100126-1 and 1.98~20100128-1 I can't boot the Linux kernels installed on my machine, when I select one of them or just let boot the default one, my machine just freezes and the following message is showed on screen:
Loading Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 ... Loading initial ramdisk ... Since the machine no longer boots, the only way of fixing this is rebooting and using a rescue cd to downgrade grub-pc to 1.98~20100115-1. I'm using the default configuration of grub-pc provided by Debian. The /boot partition is the first one on my disk and the root filesystem is on LVM. This normal setup worked until 1.98~20100115-1. BTW, this bug is not affecting the booting of a partition with Windows XP in this machine. -- Package-specific info: *********************** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/mapper/fiona-root / ext3 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda1 /boot ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/mapper/fiona-tmp /tmp ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/mapper/fiona-usr /usr ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/mapper/fiona-var /var ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/mapper/miguel-home /home ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/mapper/scratch-tmp /home/miguel/tmp ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 *********************** END /proc/mounts -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages grub-pc depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii grub-common 1.98~20100115-1 GRand Unified Bootloader, version ii libc6 2.10.2-5 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii ucf 3.0025 Update Configuration File: preserv grub-pc recommends no packages.
