After upgrading my kernel from 2.6.30 to 2.6.32, I got a string of "Fatal
DMA error" messages from the b43 driver after b43-fwcutter was
installed/run. This package needs to be updated to a newer version (from
git); also, it needs to be updated to download v478 or newer firmware if it
detects a LP-PHY card (such as the 14e4:4315). The v410 firmware has been
reported to cause "Fatal DMA error" messages (which in most cases lead to a
lockup, as the original reporter described) on machines with neither Atom
nor Core 2 ULV processors (on computers using Atom or Core 2 ULV CPUs, this
message is due to a much more serious issue); in this case, a firmware
upgrade is needed to fix the problem.
