Installing wmaker and removing icewm resolves the issue which suggests
there is a problem with icewm.
--- .xsession-errors

Have you tried it with kdm or xdm?
icewm-session: icewm-session: Warning: File still open: fd=5,
target='pipe:[13842]' (missing FD_CLOEXEC?)
That's weird. It's the first time I see such messages, they are from
a code part written especially for Linux. Not sure what the purpose is,
maybe to detect broken kernels or misconfigured user environment.
They are not shown with kdm. However, icewm exists either way.
It seems that some system services (including gdm and dbus) inherit
these FDs but I can't really tell if they are the same pipe or just
happen to be a pipe in multiple processes.
IceWM: Out of memory for RGB pixel buffer
/usr/share/icewm/themes/1in1-xp/taskbar/windows.xpm
I just tried 1in1-xp theme - problem is not reproducible. Have you set
some cruel ulimit settings? What does "ulimit -a" show? Is your system
running out of filehandles? What do you have in /proc/sys/fs/file-nr and
/proc/sys/fs/file-max ?
This goes away when I remove .icewm and the default theme is used.
I tried to tar up the theme so that I could send it to you and tar
complained that it cannot access the taskbar windows pixmap. Changing
permissions on it so that it is accessible resolves the issue. Removing
the file also resolves the issue.
Looks like icewm overreacts to permission errors while accessing theme
files.
Thanks
