Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.28.0-3
I believe this is a duplicate of bug #381021, which has been closed.
I am running Debian Squeeze (testing). The version of Alacarte installed is
0.12.4-1
Note: Exactly the same behaviour as described below, (including the brief
appearance of the
user-configured icon before the default icon appears), also occurs on my other
computer, which uses gnome-panel 2.26.0 and alacarte 0.11.10-0ubunt, under
Ubuntu Jaunty. Should I perhaps file this bug upstream with Gnome?
When I use Alacarte to assign an icon to a launcher, the assigned icon does not
apply to the Window List buttons on the panel. To reproduce this behaviour:
1) Open the Alacarte Main Menu editor -- (Main Menu > System > Preferences >
Main Menu)
2) Using Alacarte, navigate to Applications > System Tools > File Browser
3) Right-click on File Browser and select 'Properties'
4) In the 'Properties' dialog click on the icon
5) In the 'Browse icons' dialog go to "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/"
and select the icon file named "nautilus.svg". Click 'OK"'
6) Click 'Close' in the 'Launcher Properties' dialog, then click 'Close' in the
'Main Menu' dialog.
7) Open the Nautilus file browser -- (Main Menu > System Tools > File Browser)
The icon that shows in the resulting Window List button on the panel is the
default icon, (a grey-scale rendering of a two-door file cabinet), instead of
the conch shell icon selected for the menu. BUT, it you're quick enough in
looking at the panel while launching the File Browser, (and I suppose this
depends partly on your computer's speed), you will see the orange conch shell
BRIEFLY appear in the Window List button, before it is replaced by the
grey-scale file cabinet icon.
This is a specific example of the way my system behaves universally and
consistently. I believe that the icons in the Window List should match those
selected in the Main Menu. The brief appearance of my chosen icon before it's
replaced by the default icon suggests to me that this is a bug.
If what I have observed is deemed to be the desired behaviour and not a bug,
can you please tell me what files to edit, and where they are located, so I can
make the Window List icons match the icons I choose for the Main Menu?
Thanks
Paul Taylor
