Ok. I didn't remember whether I already asked this to you or Celejar, but.. 
could you please attach /var/log/wicd/wicd.log, after enabling debugging mode?

That's probably the reason :-)

I myself don't have any hidden ESSID available to test. However, I'll start 
investigating this.
I can't tell whether upstream considers this a critical bug or not though -- 
they won't do any more 1.* releases, unless "critical" bugs pop up. So it's 
really me the one who should fix this :)
