I had a look at the five left-over :0.log* files in /var/log/gdm on my Intel-based notebook. I can't find anything in them that could point out what's wrong when the screen remains black, and yes, these five files cover resumed X sessions that led to a black screen after resuming the notebook. Maybe there's something in the logs on my amd64/Radeon system. I'll look at these files tomorrow.
