Just to clarify the ideas around this, the glusterfs-client package
launches a binary called form mount.glusterfs file (mount -t glusterfs),
located at /usr/bin/glusterfs which actually is a symlink of
/usr/sbin/glusterfsd, the binary carried by the -server package.

I think that the most practical solution would be to split -server into
-server and -common, the first one just carrying the
etc/glusterfs/glusterfsd.vol and related initscripts, and the -common
just the binary /usr/sbin/glusterfsd.
