This confused me. If you removed .evolution you should have lost all your mails. Your issue may be better handled if you report it to upstream as you've done before. Could you please try to catch a backtrace when the crash happens and search it in upstream bugzilla (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/) with the backtrace you found?
