Package: vile-filters Version: 9.7y-1 Severity: wishlist Hi Brendan and Paul,
It is not totally obvious how to enable syntax highlighting in vile. I first looked in /usr/share/doc/vile-filters/README.Debian, but that only explains how the package is broken up. The answer is available indirectly from README.gz, line 32: | want syntax coloring? add "--with-builtin-filters" to your configure | options and then read the topics "Color basics" and "Syntax coloring" in | the file vile.hlp. which requires further chasing to discover | Users should take these additional steps: | | 1) add the following to their $HOME/.vilerc startup files: | | source "filters.rc" from :help. Perhaps the README.Debian could help the user get running more quickly by mentioning this 'source' line. Or better yet, could this be the default?
