Package: xfce4 Version: 4.6.1.3 Severity: normal
This sounds like a 'udev' or 'hal' problem to me. The last few upgrades of 'udev' have completely killed input on my system: the 148-1 to 148-2 change involved a packaging bug; the change from 149-1 to 149-2 behaved similarly, but a reboot gave me a completely working system. The machine was not hung -- I was able to get in via 'ssh' just fine -- but I could find no way to get my system working again without rebooting, no matter what low-level subsystems I restarted. I've never had Xfce simply lose its inputs without doing something intrusive (like upgrading), however. This kind of problem is really nasty to deal with when you get bit by it. I certainly second Yves-Alexis' insistence that 'ssh' is a good thing to have around when it happens, though!
