As one of BitBake developers I want to tell that is it safe to just do rebuild of package to get rid of python2.4 stuff.
We maintain compatibility with Python 2.4 in 1.8.x branch of BitBake and it is compatible with 2.5 and 2.6 versions. 1.10 and 'master' branches require Python 2.5 but are not expected to be packaged yet - they are development branches.
