X crashing is an X bug.
Yes, but from an ssh console, I tried the following :
- kill blender
- /etc/init.d/gdm restart
- kill X and gdm processes
none of these actions restored a working system (screen was still black,
keyboard did not respond). That's why I said that it "breaks the whole
system".
you probably want to install xorg's -dbg packages (including -core,
libgl-* and your driver's, maybe more), attach the running X process
in gdb from another machine, using ssh, and then get a backtrace.
I am not sure I am capable of doing all this, because I don't have
enough knowledge in this field, but I can try.
