As you can recognize from the file suffixes, that is freedesktop files,
i.e. applicable to gnome and kde and things like that.

But choosewm uses the Debian menu.

Can you try putting something like the following into
/etc/menu/e17 and call update-menus

?package(e17):needs="wm" section="Window Managers" \
 title="enlightenment" command="/usr/bin/enlightenment_start"

and let me know if that works?
