I don’t think gnome-screensaver has anything to do with that problem. It doesn’t act upon lid close, it doesn’t set the backlight. The odds are 50-40-10 for me between a kernel bug, a X driver bug, and a gnome-power-manager/devicekit-power bug. Please try with a 2.6.31 kernel to see if this is a regression in the kernel. Please also try with KMS enabled, or disabled if it’s already the case. Cheers, -- .''`.
