Then ensure you call rsync with the same options as ftpsync does
(--max-delete used, --delay-updates and --delete-after enabled).

Possible, but not really wished to be honest: indeed, common path
avoid user errors, allow easier setup of round robins, etc.

Is a virtual host or alias so hard to be setup ?

Using --max-delete as ftpsync does protect against such failures on
a upstream mirror.

You can understand it may be counter-productive if any Debian mirror want to
sync from close master servers, it leads to overloading them.
