I can confirm this bug and its solution, that is to add the current user to the "lp" group (before the user had to belong to the "scanner" group).
I suggest to do so in the postinst process so that a user does not have to worry about losing his scanning/printing privileges. Actually, most inexperienced users just may report that their scanners/printers do not work anymore.
