Package: sox Version: 14.3.0-1.1 Severity: normal Hi,
Indeed, the result is 75% CPU usage with default play of ANY file (ogg, wav, flac). With --single-thread option, CPU usage drops to a more acceptable 5-6%, though that still seems a little inefficient. 5% CPU to play WAV or Flac 6% CPU to play Ogg output is through alsa driver. IMHO, multi-threaded mode should be disabled until it is fixed. - Adam -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (50, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-rc8-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages sox depends on: ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgomp1 4.4.2-3 GCC OpenMP (GOMP) support library ii libgsm1 1.0.13-3 Shared libraries for GSM speech co ii libltdl7 2.2.6a-4 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libmagic1 5.03-3 File type determination library us ii libpng12-0 1.2.40-1 PNG library - runtime ii libsox-fmt-alsa 14.3.0-1.1 SoX alsa format I/O library ii libsox-fmt-base 14.3.0-1.1 Minimal set of SoX format librarie ii libsox1a 14.3.0-1.1 SoX library of audio effects and p ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-15 compression library - runtime sox recommends no packages.
