After a fresh installation of my new development system, I ended up with
a graphical login (great, I expected worse for my ATI HD3300 on-board
graphics).
OTOH, I had no keyboard and mouse.
Interestingly, rebooting the system fixed the problem. I guess that the
hal database was not populated for some reason, so this might not be
a bug in X11.
However, I would expect the server to abort without any input devices.
Without network access, the thing that's left to a user without network
access is to hit the reset button.
Excerpt from the (attached) Xorg.0.log:
(II) Cannot locate a core pointer device.
(II) Cannot locate a core keyboard device.
(II) The server relies on HAL to provide the list of input devices.
If no devices become available, reconfigure HAL or disable
AllowEmptyInput.
I can retry the installation to provide more data if that is of interest.
