Support was also backported by you to 2:2.3.2, and yet that didn't help the autodetection... I've just noticed a very relevant item in the changelog for 2:2.3.2-2+lenny3 : * Drop G45 PCI ids from intel.ids so that vesa is autoloaded by default for these new boards for now. So the auto-detection was deliberately sabotaged in that version (which predates my bug report by several months); I wonder why?
