Package: maxima
Version: 5.17.1-1
Severity: normal

In the maxima manual 5.17.1, it states that you can use the double quote
operator to force maxima to evaluate expressions when it otherwise does
not (section command line). For example, when I try:

sin(1);

I get as output: sin(1)

According to the maxima manual, if I do:

''sin(1);

I should get a numerical value out, but instead I get sin(1) again. For
things like this, the workaround
is to use the function float(expr). However, there are other
applications for which the double quote would be very helpful, for
example, defining functions from derivatives of other functions.
