You should execute 'startlxde' script for the booting process. I noticed
xdm invoke desktop environment at ~/.xsession, but I don't know where it
reads system wide config for xdm?

In gdm it looks at /usr/share/xsessions/ for desktop environment.
So for LXDE it should be /usr/share/xsessions/LXDE.desktop
