There is a possible patch in the sourceforge tracker (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1721000&group_id=4286&atid=104286), but given that this was filed in 2007 and has not been commented on by the maintainers, I don't think that it makes much sense in patching and compiling the "current" mhash upstream version (which is one year old and has not yet found its way into Debian) on Debian lenny and trying out whether the issue is still there. There seems nobody left caring about mhash anyway :-( I'm going to let this bug rot away in the BTS until somebody wakes up, and I would suggest that you retire the box.
