hello -
i noticed that apt-check is apparently hanging while using 100% of
the cpu. attaching to the process using strace shows nothing after
the "Process XXXX attached - interrupt to quit" message.
this is reproducible and affects other accounts on the system.
attempting to run the command manually shows:
% /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check
/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check:62: DeprecationWarning: apt_pkg.GetCache()

nothing else is displayed, and at this point attempting to interrupt
the process with ctrl-c fails.
