After reading that, as 'root' I did: mv /usr/lib/audacious/Input/timidity.so /tmp/tim ...after which 'audacious2' worked. And Matti Hämäläinen reports fixing that 'timidity.so' bug upstream. Thanks guys! (One reservation. Apparently a buggy plugin caused the hang. If so, it seems the current plugin design might be needlessly fragile.
