I recently looked at this bug, and sorry if I said it unclearly, but what I meant was that SDL ALSA drivers *didn't* work either, and when I used the -nosound option with prboom it did work (as in no crashing but no sound too of course), so I concluded it most probably is not a problem with any specific SDL sound driver.
