Hello, I too have been recently looking for how to solve this. I found a possible workaround by adding a 70-no-nimbus.conf file to conf.avail and linking to it at conf.d. I found this at http://staticfree.info/projects/debian/ugly-fonts/ .
Maybe this file could be provided with the package, but I'd rather if the package also created the link at conf.d to the file by default as the Nimbus Sans are quite ugly when rendered on a screen. Regards, Pitxyoki
