Hm, or rather doxygen should drop that usage. While I think we have only a4.sty in the path in TeXLive (there are 6 more in the doc hierarchy), there are many more "out there", and you can't guarantee that a document using that looks sensible. Upstream is more inclined to move a4.sty and a4wide.sty from texlive-latex-recommended to texlive-obsolete (AKA really-not-recommended-but-seriously-discouraged).
