Package: ferm
Version: 2.0.6-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

iptables seems to have a hard-coded 30 character limit for chain
names, making constructions like

@def &logreject($filename,$logprefix) = @subchain "lr--$filename--$logprefix" {

hard to implement. When one tries to load this rule set into the
kernel, a rather nondescript "invalid argument" error occurs. When I
try to iptables --new-chain with a very long name, I get a meaningful
error message.

Would it be possible for ferm to catch long chain names itself and
give a clear error message?

Greetings
Marc
