given the fact that actually already 5.1.37-2 had mysql-dfsg-5.1
packages, it seems to me that this bug has been fixed,
so closing it now.

It is not fixed, the testsuite failures are not fatal to build
(see definition of TESTSUITE_FAIL_CMD in debian/rules),
but they are not fixed, see excerpts from the buildd logs bellow.

With patch applied (the same linking flags as on Linux), the testsuite results of 5.1.39-1 on kfreebsd-amd64 would be:

Failed 1/728 tests, 99.86% were successful.
