Will follow up > next week when I'm back home. After upgrading udev to 146-5 and rebooting, everything works fine again, so I suppose udev was in fact the culprit. Also the wpa_supplicant problem in #548694 is gone now, that was probably caused by the bad signal mask in udev 146-3 as well.
