Most of the times I reboot a server ypbind will fail to start. Ocassionaly this doesn't happen. I am able to get a serial console on these machines and from the boot messages (listing below but a little trashed ) I assume portmap is not yet completly initialized. After machine boots if I do /etc/init.d/nis restart ypbind starts fine and binds to the nis masters. Configuring network interfaces...done.
