Hi Ross,

first of all: Thank you! :-) I was very happy to integrate the new GPL version (2008) of Latex2html into Debian.

Good.
Sorry I've not had time to address any remaining bugs;
but presumably you have been doing this for those that
you know about.

However, I'm sending you the REJECT mail from the archive administrators who found some problems with the current licensing. They are very strict, and it looks like we need to address those issues first before we have latex2html in "Debian main" again.

OK; let's have a look at what they say below ...

Thanks in advance!

Roland

Dear maintainer,

REJECT: insufficient copyright, not suitable for main.

I find many probles with this package, SOME of them are documented below.

---

L2hos/* say:
"using stuff from the former Override.pm and from the File::Spec modules"

The license of the the File::Spec module is Artistic, and this license
isn't mentioned in the copyright file. None ofr the File::Spec
Copyright holders are mentioned. This is something upstream shoudl address.

Hmm. I'll have to have a look at this.
Not sure who wrote that coding, though I'd doubt very
much that there is any real problem here.

---

cweb2html/Makefile (and many other files in this directory):
###################################################################### ########## # Copyright 1998-1999 by Jens Lippmann (lippm...@rbg.informatik.tu- darmstadt.de)
#
# Permission to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software for any
# purpose and without fee is hereby granted, provided that the above
# copyright notice appears in all copies. This software is provided "as is"
# and without any express or implied warranties.
#
###################################################################### ##########

These copyright holders, nor this license is mentioned in debian/ copyright.

This whole section can be omitted.
It is for converting files in  CWeb  format;
that is, (perhaps literate?) source coding for a particular
programming language. It's of limited usage now; perhaps none.

---

docs/changebar/changebar.dtx

is Copyright 1994-1995 Johannes Braams, and contains restrictions not
suitable for main, such as, "You are NOT ALLOWED to change this file".

Please check whether changebar , or some more recent variant,
is distributed with your LaTeX installation. If so, then it can
be omitted from here, as it will be available anyway.

If the LaTeX package has a new name, then there will be some
small changes needed to some Perl scripts. I'm happy to help
with these modifications, if you need it.

For any directories and files that you omit, make sure that
the MANIFEST is updated to remove their names.

there may be other problems, I stop here.

I've given you a few leads to follow.
Let me know of remaining problems

bye,
