So I appear to have lost visibility to this bug/thread. This is a mac problem not an elilo problem as Apple chose to implement a hybrid version of EFI and made divergent efi graphics output choices so this patch set was rejected last year and will not be accepted upstream. So those that want to run linux on ia32 macs will need to continue to use 3.6 with the community patches. this is not a generic ia32 issue and so doesnt really belong in debian either IMHO. my apologies, I was completely unaware this bug was still alive.
