Re-reading Policy §2.5, I see that “Packages must not depend on packages with lower priority values (excluding build-time dependencies). In order to ensure this, the priorities of one or more packages may need to be adjusted.” Release 1.4.8-1 of ‘python-daemon’ has therefore switched the priority to ‘optional’, to allow common optional packages to depend on this one without violating Policy.
