Package: grub-pc Version: 1.97~beta3-1 Severity: normal -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1
I have three boxes running testing. They all exhibit the same problem, and have been doing so for a couple of months now. They're all set up in much the same way: - - root partition is a primary partition using ext3, and is small (~ 500M) - - /home, /usr and /var are all LVM partitions, using XFS On boot, there's a brief flash of a reverse-video message which I think says "Welcome to grub", but it goes by so fast that it's hard to be certain. It's followed by a grub screen giving details on how to edit things, and this is a normal PC white-on-black. It hangs here for some time (10? 20? seconds), then the "error: no such disk" message appears. After a few more seconds, the proper grub boot screen appears (with the correct background image), and all is normal from then on and the system can be booted on any of the selections. - -- Package-specific info: *********************** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/disk/by-uuid/7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 / ext3 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=writeback 0 0 /dev/mapper/khufu_vg-home_lv /home xfs rw,relatime,noquota 0 0 /dev/mapper/khufu_vg-usr_lv /usr xfs rw,relatime,noquota 0 0 /dev/mapper/khufu_vg-var_lv /var xfs rw,relatime,noquota 0 0 *********************** END /proc/mounts *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/sda (hd1) /dev/sdb *********************** END /boot/grub/device.map *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### set default=0 insmod lvm insmod xfs set root=(khufu_vg-usr_lv) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set d67a593e-d7cd-4e73-bc6c-5275cf5c86a4 if loadfont /share/grub/unicode.pf2 ; then set gfxmode=640x480 insmod gfxterm insmod vbe if terminal_output gfxterm ; then true ; else # For backward compatibility with versions of terminal.mod that don't # understand terminal_output terminal gfxterm fi fi set timeout=5 ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 insmod tga if background_image /boot/grub/B-1B_over_the_pacific_ocean.tga ; then set color_normal=black/black set color_highlight=magenta/black else set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue fi ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry "Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.31-khufu-0" { insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-khufu-0 root=UUID=7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 ro selinux=0 printk.time=n vga=794 initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-khufu-0 } menuentry "Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.31-khufu-0 (recovery mode)" { insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-khufu-0 root=UUID=7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 ro single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-khufu-0 } menuentry "Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.30.5-khufu-0" { insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30.5-khufu-0 root=UUID=7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 ro selinux=0 printk.time=n vga=794 initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.30.5-khufu-0 } menuentry "Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.30.5-khufu-0 (recovery mode)" { insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30.5-khufu-0 root=UUID=7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 ro single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.30.5-khufu-0 } ### END /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/20_memtest86+ ### menuentry "Memory test (memtest86+)" { linux /boot/memtest86+.bin } menuentry "Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)" { linux /boot/memtest86+.bin console=ttyS0,115200n8 } ### END /etc/grub.d/20_memtest86+ ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/22_invaders ### menuentry "GRUB Invaders" { insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7333124d-f589-4427-a71b-a5aa1391eab4 multiboot /boot/invaders.exec } ### END /etc/grub.d/22_invaders ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### menuentry "Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader) (on /dev/sdb1)" { insmod ntfs set root=(hd1,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 6e6047cd60479aab drivemap -s (hd0) ${root} chainloader +1 } ### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/40_custom ### # This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries.
