I'm sorry that you found the report confusing - I'm using QGit terminology.
In QGit, "sync" (I think) is when you update the index, in preparation for a commit.

In case you missed it I changed the subject to indicate (more precisely) that this
report concerns how git responds to someone

1. adding a symlink to a directory
2. performing a commit
3. Removing the symlink from git and the filesystem
4. Creating a directory with the same name and location as the deleted symlink
5. Adding the directory and its contents to git

Have you tried to reproduce the bug?
Should I reassign this bug to qgit?
