As I am about to make an upload of this (now orphaned) package, I plan to fix this bug as well as l10n bugs so that Vaclav's apparently correct patch doesn't end up ignored.
I will only add a dependency on lsb-base because of the use of LSB functions in the new init script. This is actually something we did as well for samba packages when we got similar bug reports. --
