Package: mc Version: 2:4.7.0-pre1-3 Severity: normal In the new version there appears to be a regression in the mc search facility (the search box triggered by F7 or / in the internal viewer or editor).
In previous versions, the entry string in the search box would be populated with the previous search string. This was incredibly useful, it meant you could check for equivalent pieces of information in different files without having to retype the same search string over and over again for every different file. (It never got in the way since you could enter a different search string just by typing). In the new version of mc, this behaviour not longer occurs. The search string starts up blank for every single file. The old behaviour is still there while you remain inside one file (the search string is populated for repeat searches), but on opening a different file your search term is lost again. The search box does have a search history drop-down list, but this is not as convenient. The old, useful and convenient, behaviour might be restored by prepopulating the search string with the first entry of that history list.
