That's what I did, when I got the the first error message from
reportbug trying to invoke emacsclient, before retrying the edit -
with no success.

I'd exited my other emacs session.  I trust other users' sessions
don't present any problem ...

will have to wait until I can disrupt work (and saved state in the
running session) to do so.  Hopefully later today - before I've built
up too much saved state !

ah !  Now, therein lies a clue: I hadn't purged emacs22's .elc files
before starting emacs23 - might that be apt to cause trouble ?
