There are a few aspects of your patch for python2.6 that I don't
understand. In particular, why are you modifying the rules to
regenerate libtool, automake, and autoconf files? The only part of the
patch that seems like it might be needed is changing the rm path to
prevent the python files from making it into the dev package. Anyway,
that change seems harmless.

I can't accept the patch as provided since it doesn't include build
dependencies on autoconf and automake at all (let alone of the requested
versions), and I also don't want to have the package regenerate autoconf
and automake without a really good reason.

I've partially taken the patch and will be closing the bug with my
upload of 7.18.2-1. Please let me know if the fix is sufficient. If
not, please feel free to reopen this bug with a full explanation of why
the changes are needed in order to make this work with python 2.6.
Thanks!
