Hi, This bug and the proposed patch are now more then 3 years old.
I have been using the patch submitted by Sean for quite a long time long to succesfully build i386 packages on an amd64 host. Everything is running fine, hence, even if you do not consider this solution as perfect in the long run, maybe you could apply this patch temporarily until a new solution is proposed?
