Package: libesmtp5 Version: 1.0.3-1 Severity: normal libesmtp5 depends on OpenSSL for its TLS functionality. As libesmtp5 is LGPLed, this does not pose a license problem as such. It does pose a license problem for applications under the GPL that use libesmtp5 as there is an incompatibility between the GPL and the OpenSSL license.
In GnuTLS we have a TLS implementation that is (mostly) LPGL. It would be a good idea for libesmtp to switch to GnuTLS for its TLS implementation to prevent licensing issues with GPLed code wishing to use libesmpt. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (800, 'unstable'), (750, 'experimental'), (500, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12.2 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO8859-1 (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages libesmtp5 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7g-1 SSL shared libraries libesmtp5 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- Obsig: developing a new sig -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
