Thanks for explaining how the -a option was meant. I consider putting your
own hostname and IP address into /etc/hosts obsolete (except for localhost,
which will certainly never change) and only beneficial in the case that you
got no internet access and you are not running a local DNS server for the
zone your hostname is on (if you got no internet access, you probably don’t
need name resolution anyways, except for stuff like sudo, but that is another
case to investigate…).

So, to sum it up: If we find programs which are using this actively, we
should consider changing them to find out about hostnames in another way
(not that using hostname -a was ever a good idea…).

Thanks about the hint for updating the manpage. I attached an updated version
of my patch.
