Package: emacs22-gtk
Version: 22.2+2-5
Severity: normal

One of those 'happens sometimes for no apparent reason' problems. In
a terminal window in my Gnome desktop, I type 'emacs', expecting
emacs22-gtk to appear. It does not. The terminal window loses focus,
the disk and cpu work for a few seconds, then nothing.

There is no error message. The shell prompt in the terminal does not
reappear. I can use CTL-C to regain a shell prompt. The command
'xmessage foo' produces a window, as expected. The command 'emacs
-nw' produces emacs running in the terminal, as expected. But I
cannot get emacs to run in its own frame.

The problem seems to occur some hours after booting, unpredictably.
Once it starts, it stays stuck until I reboot or going into
single-user mode and back.

The last time it happened I tried running 'strace emacs' and hit CTL-C
after a second or two. The trace ends with this,
